 Rankin and Mosse to write Quick Reads

Ian Rankin, Kate Mosse and Gervase Phinn are among the big names due to write Quick Reads for World Book Day 2009 (5th March).

The 10 £1.99 titles, all short, pacy books aimed at encouraging unpractised readers, will include seven works of fiction and three non-fiction titles, including a guide to getting your children reading and a business entrepreneurship title from the Dragons of the BBC programme “Dragons’ Den”.

The Quick Reads programme is now in its fourth year, with sales of the titles exceeding three-quarters of a million copies and “unprecedented” demand in 2008, said organisers.

At a really hip bar in Shoreditch. I stood on stage and … read from my book.  This was different to the other ‘talks’ I have done because… well I was performing for my peers for a start…  Oh I don’t know. All I know is, I was SCARED! But when I started reading , I noticed that people were actually listening! And I luvved very moment of it.      Bring on the bars!! 

Yes, It’s been a strange old month.
Was off work for a whole month and finally felt like a ‘real’ writer.  I know,  I now,  I am one, but you know what I mean, right? So what have I been up to in the meantime… well

• Write book 2
• Sign autographs (I’m serious!!!!) 
• Write Quick Read
• Promotion - including talks at a few libraries, a school and a prison.
• Eat
• Sleep
• Strategically place my books in book shops
• Update Blog (not)
• Try and remember my own name
• Think up an idea for book three (I kid you not - that was totally random and unplanned…)

I have totally enjoyed it!!! It’s been greeaat.

I never want it to end.

Admittedly, I’m writing this post AFTER it has all happened (I was just too tired to hit a key) and a few weeks have passed, but I do remember how tiring it was and how lovely.

How thrilling and so RIGHT it felt (still feels).

This is what I am meant to do.

This is what I have always wanted.

I am sounding corny.

Anyway, I’m back at the day job and back to normal, whilst knowing that NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME AGAIN.
